Synopsis
Humanity survived the Sure attack and spread across the stars. To stay alive, it learned the rule of the forest: whoever shows themselves, dies.
You wake from hibernation aboard a hunter ship, more than a thousand light-years from Earth. Your job sounds simple: read the signals that arrive, say which ones are real, and purify the worlds the protocol condemns.
Nobody confirms you were right. Projectiles take centuries to arrive. And every time you look at a world, it may be looking back.
Inspiration
Tenebra is deeply inspired by Liu Cixin's Remembrance of Earth's Past saga (The Three-Body Problem), and by its most frightening question: what happens in a universe where revealing yourself can cost you everything? This is an independent fan project, not affiliated with the author or any adaptation of the work.
How it works
Receive
Signals reach the Receiver and the red light comes on. You walk through the ship to each station.
Investigate
Instruments reveal the target's star, mass and image. Every reading costs energy and exposes your position.
Judge
Compare the evidence with the manual: is the signal sincere, false, manipulated, old or compromised?
Fire
Prepare the weapon at the terminal and finish the shot by hand at the firing bay.
Live with it
Reports tell you what was left behind. Messages from home keep arriving, and not all of them seem to be what they claim.
Current state
The game is in beta and still has rough edges. For now, the story ends at the first hibernation, on a hook.
- Eight playable cycles, from waking up to the first hibernation
- Signals, instruments, verdicts, weapons and impact reports
- Private messages and calls with the crew
- Windows and Linux builds, in English and Portuguese
- Gathering player feedback to validate the idea
- Reviewing writing, pacing and sound
Goals
- Find out whether the idea holds players
- Continue the story past the first hibernation, into the war and the past with the Sures
- Create multiple endings, shaped by your decisions
- Release the full game on Steam
Support the project
The beta is free. If you want to see the full game, you can contribute $2 or more on itch.io. Contributions help fund development and a Steam release. This is a goal, not a guarantee: please contribute only if you're happy with the beta as it is today.
What helps most right now is your opinion: what confused you, what stayed with you, and which decision you regretted.
